I would never have thought of this principle myself, at least not worded this way. However, I discovered it today, 2 June 2008, when I came across this video that was featured on the front page of YouTube.
I hate LABELS of all sorts. Yes, I know they are a convenient way for people to sort things out. BUT they limit possibilities so profoundly -- and create such narrow boxes that we shove people into. And sadly, "labels" contribute so much to hate speech. We simply MUST OBJECT. Tell people, I AM NOT A LABEL!

I stumbled across a provocative YouTube video this morning. Surprisingly, it was the second video on a list of recommended videos of the day. When I saw it, I thought it would be very appropriate to place on our page of principles.
Yes, boundary breakers do, in my view, need a set of principles to guide their thoughts, feelings and actions. If we develop a strong and well-considered set of principles, we "outsiders" may earn increasing attention and respect. What do you think? |
